Remember to breathe!
Be yourself – You’ve worked hard to achieve this special day & it’s yours to enjoy!
Try to eat something & hydrate with water.
Avoid being late. Trial run your arrival, one week prior. Allow time for traffic delay caused by road works or sports events.
Melbourne’s weather motto is ‘four seasons in one day’. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, have a ‘Plan B’ just in case:
- an alternative venue for holding the ceremony indoors
- hire a large marquis or outdoor umbrellas
- have a large umbrella in the wedding car in case of rain
- umbrellas or parasols available for guests
Perhaps due to nerves, wedding rings can sometimes be hard to slip on fingers. Solution: a smear of Vaseline inside the band helps.
A cloth handkerchief subtly wrapped around your bouquet is a good idea just in case emotions take over and you shed a tear or two!
Assign some duties to trusted friends or relatives to look after any wedding cards/gifts given at the reception or rescue any leftover wedding cake.
Having your wedding ceremony in a public area? Nominate an ‘event person’ (trusted friend/family member) to arrive earlier to secure your space.
Be prepared for something to go wrong on the day. Don’t stress out about it. You’ll probably laugh about it afterwards!
Visit & check out your venue at the same time of day as the actual wedding, a few days prior to your occasion. See what impact the sun/shade may have.
Schedule 10 minutes of personal time (after the ceremony, before the reception) to be on your own as a newly married couple.
Choose a celebrant who has a personality and presence you feel comfortable in. Find out if they are a member of an association or network. An association membership indicates that the celebrant is up to date with current knowledge and practices.
